As Japan's westernmost distillery, Sakimoto Distillery has preserved the tradition of awamori production on Yonaguni Island since its founding in 1927. We are situated on a small hill in the middle of a pasture beyond the island's sugarcane fields, where a small team carefully crafts each batch. Our distillation is carried out using a traditional direct-fire pot still operated under atmospheric pressure—a historic method now found only west of Yaeyama Islands of Okinawa.
